Apartment living is on the rise, with many young professionals and couples finding apartments near the city more affordable than stand-alone houses. But what about families? According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, families with children make up almost 44 per cent of apartment dwellers. Let’s look at some of the apartments which perfectly suit family living.
Larger floorplans
In response to the growing market of families with children, developers are creating projects with larger floorplans — such as those found within Southbank Place.
Developed by one of Australia’s leading property developers, Central Equity, the project offers a range of floorplans which exceed the standards found in other projects in the area.
“Our three bedroom configurations are very generously proportioned, which is a large reason we’ve seen a lot more families coming through,” says Jeremy Viles, Marketing Manager at Central Equity. “It also helps that we build homes with comprehensive acoustic engineering, so mum and dad won’t have to worry about bub waking up the neighbours.”
On-site childcare facilities
The type of amenities on offer within apartment projects is transforming. Alongside the typical gymnasium and dining areas, developments now offer retail outlets, pharmacists and, in the case of DKSN, childcare centres.
Developer DOMA Group is delivering the mixed-use precinct to Dickson in Canberra. Apartments will sit atop a 13,200-square-metre public plaza, complete with Government offices, a medical practice and a laneway filled with restaurants and bars. And with a café on the ground floor, parents can grab a coffee on their way to and from the first-floor childcare centre.
Location
Usually, families can only afford houses further out in the suburbs. But there are plenty of affordable apartments being built in premium locations, such as Mahala Mermaid Beach.
Located minutes from the pristine coastline, Mahala places energetic children in a natural paradise while remaining close to modern amenities. The iconic Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is within easy walking distance, and on-site amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and entertainment terrace.
These features are coupled with the fact that strata levies are lower than those of other surrounding project and a rooftop solar-farm system further reduces costs — it’s an ideal place for families to live and grow together.
Community
It takes a village to raise a child, which is why being involved in a community is so important. Developers are changing the way they masterplan their projects, and Frasers Property Australia’s Ed.Square is setting a new benchmark for community living in Edmondson Park.
With a train station at its doorstep, the new precinct has its own unique identity and sense of community. From the town centre filled with shopping and entertainment — including a full line Coles — to the vibrant eateries to be found on Eat Street, Ed.Square’s apartments and townhouses are selling fast.
