Are you lounging around your apartment over the Christmas holidays and feeling like it (and maybe you!) could use a little pick-me-up?  You’re not alone! While you’re spending more time at home and less time at work, it’s a great time to freshen up your apartment. With just a few small changes, you can give your home a fresh and rejuvenated look that will have you feeling ready to tackle anything 2024 may throw your way. Whether you want to make a big splash with a new paint job or just add a few small touches to spruce things up, there are plenty of little things you can do to transform your apartment in a big way. So grab your cleaning supplies and your design eye, and let's get started on giving your living space the makeover it deserves.

Decluttering

Take a look around and make a list of areas that are in desperate need of decluttering.

Is your closet overflowing with clothes you haven't worn in years? Time to say goodbye. Do you have a stack of old magazines that you've been meaning to get rid of? It's time to let them go. What about a drawer full of recycling bags? Might be the perfect time to recycle them and repurpose that drawer for more useful storage.

Remember, decluttering isn't just about getting rid of stuff – it's also about finding a place for everything. Take the time to organise your belongings and you'll be amazed at how much more zen and put-together your apartment will feel.

Add some new decor

Before you hit the stores, take a look around your apartment and think about what you want to change. Do you want to add some pops of colour? Are you looking for a few statement pieces to make a bold statement? Or do you just want to switch up your cushions and throw rugs for something a little more playful?

Once you have a game plan, it's time to hit the stores (or, let's be real, scroll through some online shops). Don't be afraid to mix and match styles and try out new trends - it's your apartment! And remember, it's okay to go a little crazy - after all, it's a fresh year, and that calls for a fresh start.

Give your walls a new look with fresh paint

Giving your apartment walls a fresh coat of paint is a quick and fun way to make a big impact on the overall look and feel of your space. And the best part? You get to choose the colour.

Before you start painting, you want to think about the overall look and feel you want to achieve. Do you want a calming blue hue, a bold statement wall, or something neutral that will go with everything?

Next, think about the size of your apartment and also the amount of natural light it lets in. If your apartment is spacious and lets in an abundance of natural light, you might be able to go a little bolder with your colour choice. On the other hand, if your apartment is quite small and has less light, you might want to stick with something a little lighter to help brighten up - and open up - the space.

Rearrange furniture

Rearranging your furniture is a quick and easy way to freshen up your apartment. Plus, it's a great opportunity to try out different furniture layouts and see what works best for your space.

Sometimes, even moving your couch to a different wall or rotating your bed can make a big difference. And what about switching around your TV?  Give it a go: with a little bit of creativity and outside-of-the-box thinking, you'll have a fresh, new look in no time.

Bring in plants

Adding some greenery to your apartment can help freshen up the air and add a touch of nature to your space. Plus, plants are known to have a number of benefits for our mental and physical health, such as reducing stress and improving air quality.

When choosing plants for your apartment, it's important to consider the amount of sunlight and care they'll need. Don't be afraid to mix and match a combination of different types of plants that can add visual interest and depth to your space.

Consider mixing and matching different coloured pots for your plants - these can add subtle bursts of colour to your space!

Organise storage

Whether it's your bedroom closet, kitchen pantry, or even just your benchtop, a little bit of organisation can go a long way towards making your space feel less cluttered and more functional.

Lack of storage spaces in your apartment can easily be conquered with purchasing nifty baskets and tubs from hardware or convenience stores: there are lots of cheap and cheerful options available for everything from kitchen greens to closet jeans.

Spices falling over and causing havoc in your pantry?  Easy: get your hands on a spice rack!  Shoes strewn carelessly in the bottom of your wardrobe?  Source some inexpensive shoe racks and you’ll have them organised in no time.

Remember: you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your apartment feel spick and span.

Kick back & relax!

Once you’ve spent time cleaning, moving, tidying, painting and organsing, you can kick back, relax and admire your handiwork.

Bear in mind you don't have to do everything at once: take it one step at a time and see what works best for you and your space.

So go ahead, give your apartment a fresh, new look for the new year. You'll be amazed at the difference it can make in how you feel at home.
