Brisbane’s next lifestyle precinct is drawing inspiration from its past. Panettiere Developments’ $1.5 billion mixed-use vision for Newstead, the new Little Italy, is shaped by the area’s rich Italian heritage and is now moving from concept to construction, set to bring together homes, hospitality, and culture in the heart of this sought-after locale.

Early construction has commenced on ORO Newstead, the first residential tower within the future Little Italy precinct. With demolition complete and site works now underway, the project has officially entered its next phase, setting the foundation for what’s to come.

Once complete, ORO will rise 31 storeys, becoming the tallest residential building in Newstead. The tower will deliver 197 residences, ranging from one- to five-bedroom apartments, including sub-penthouses and penthouses.

Strong early interest has seen around half of the residences already sold, reflecting buyer confidence in both the project and its location.

An Italian celebration to mark the moment

Rather than quietly moving into construction, the team marked the milestone in a way that reflects the spirit of the project itself.

The cleared site was transformed into a lively Italian street festival, celebrating ORO as the first residential tower within the emerging Little Italy precinct. The celebration included a ceremonial sod turn attended by several distinguished guests, including Adrian Schrinner (Lord Mayor of Brisbane), Grace Grace (Minister for State Development and Infrastructure), and Samuel O'Connor (Minister for Housing and Public Works), alongside the Panettiere family.

From there, the afternoon unfolded as a celebration of Italian culture, complete with pizzas, sausages, and traditional dishes, accompanied by flowing wine, champagne, and Peroni, and live entertainment. Italian dancers and musicians brought energy and movement to the site, offering a glimpse of the vibrant atmosphere the precinct aims to create in the long term.

Wellness built into everyday living

What sets ORO apart isn’t just its place within the future Little Italy precinct, but how the building itself has been designed to be lived in.

Wellness has been embedded into the daily experience, rather than treated as an add-on. Club ORO introduces an elevated private wellness collection spanning Levels 22 and 23, designed to support both restoration and performance. This includes an indoor heated lap pool, hot and cold plunge pools, sauna, steam and salt therapy rooms, alongside a Technogym-equipped fitness centre and Pilates studio.

Above it all, a rooftop swimming pool with sweeping views across Brisbane offers a space to slow down, entertain, or simply take in the city from a different perspective.

Residents will also have access to a wide range of shared spaces, from private dining rooms and lounges to co-working areas, a cinema, games rooms, and a guest suite, supporting both quiet retreat and social connection.

Homes designed to feel calm above the city

Designed by renowned interior design studio Carr, the residences feature generous layouts and full-height glazing that draw in natural light and frame expansive views, while a warm, layered material palette featuring stone, travertine-inspired finishes, and natural timber creates interiors that feel considered and enduring.

The result is a collection of homes designed to feel like a retreat from the pace of the city, without disconnecting from it.

The heart of Little Italy

At ground level, ORO connects directly into what will become one of Brisbane’s most interesting new precincts.

The Little Italy vision will draw inspiration from Newstead’s long-standing Italian influence, with plans for a café, restaurant, pizzeria, gelateria, and a laneway leading to a central cobblestoned piazza-style space in its first stage.

Future plans will expand this into a broader offering, including a delicatessen, bakery, specialty retailers, and wellness venues, bringing a distinctly European sense of community to this already vibrant neighbourhood.

A lifestyle location that continues to evolve

Set just moments from the Gasworks retail and dining precinct, the loved James Street, and the riverfront, ORO is positioned within one of Brisbane’s most established and fast-evolving inner-city pockets.

It’s this balance between established amenity and what’s still to come that continues to draw buyers to Newstead.

With construction now underway and completion targeted for 2029, ORO Newstead is no longer just a vision. It’s a project set to reshape not just a site, but a small part of the city – a new icon you can call home.
