In the leafy east of Melbourne, Pillar of Hawthorn sets a new standard of apartment living. Only six levels high, the project features a combination of penthouses, townhouses, and apartments — all of which have been created to the highest standards by a leading development team.

The new landmark address on Burwood Road has been envisioned by two of Australia’s leading architectural studios, Rothelowman and SJB. The two dynamic teams have crafted a strong, sculptural façade, with references to the mix of homesteads that pepper the road.

Within the building, the sub-penthouse and penthouse residences feature large-scale winter gardens, crafted by the esteemed John Patrick Landscape Architects. These indoor-outdoor spaces operate as a central courtyard, doubling as a second living or dining area, or even a conservatory.

Meanwhile, the townhouses have been designed to resemble the traditional terrace houses often found in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. With living and dining spaces — and a kitchen featuring a solid timber breakfast bar — on the ground floor, the generously sized bedrooms and bathrooms occupy the second floor. “We were conscious of space, and where everything would be positioned,” says SJB Interiors Director Andrew Parr. “For instance, a pet hate of mine is when the second bedrooms and bathrooms are positioned off living rooms. With this project, I really wanted to avoid all of those bad nuances you find in modern design.”

When it comes to the apartment offerings, Andrew says, “There’s a level of detail that sets them apart in today’s market. For instance, in the ensuites, we’ve employed real, natural stone instead of reconstituted stone in all the wall finishes and the floor.” In the kitchen, the focus on the joinery and detailing showcases the team’s dedication to unique considerations, and these are the kinds of touches which give the apartments at Pillar of Hawthorn a customised feel.

Throughout the project, all interiors are united by a consistency of quality. “We also made a conscious decision to have one colour scheme throughout the project,” Andrew adds. “The palette features earthy tones and natural materials, but with some soft metallic finishes. I would describe our approach as luxurious, modern and warm.”

Located only 9km from Melbourne’s CBD, this new project places its residents within reach of a range of sophisticated modern amenities. Walk out of the door to find the vibrant dining precinct along Burwood Road. Sip from a delicious award-winning cocktail at Amber Craft Beer next door, or take a leisurely stroll and explore the neighbourhood.

Hawthorn is also home to expansive parklands, the closest being Central Gardens. Originally opened in 1900, this heritage reserve is an ideal setting for picnics on the weekend. The space-inspired playground with its ‘rocket ship’ is a popular well-known icon for local children.

At Pillar of Hawthorn, residents enjoy functional connectivity. The city can be accessed by car in under half an hour, or homeowners walk to the Glenferrie Station, only a 10-minute walk away.
