Northshore Hamilton expansion approved for Brisbane Olympic Athlete Village

The Queensland Government has accelerated plans for the athletes’ villages for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Located approximately 6 km north of the Brisbane CBD, the Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area (PDA) will see an additional 1.2 km of waterfront added to development plans. Planning Minister Steven Miles has approved this expansion.

“This city-shaping project presents an incredible opportunity to showcase Brisbane's iconic waterfront to the world and deliver a long-lasting legacy for the state,” Dr Miles said. 

The athletes’ village will be constructed on land owned by Economic Development Queensland within the Northshore Hamilton PDA.

The 1.2 km of added development will house this village, large enough to accommodate more than 10,000 athletes and team officials for the Olympic Games and approximately 5,000 athletes and team officials for the Paralympic Games.

Spanning more than 300 hectares, this expansion will have about 3 km of absolute river frontage and includes upgrades to roads and public venues.

With many new developments coming up in the Northshore Hamilton neighbourhood, the area is set to emerge as a vibrant destination for locals and visitors to live, work, and play.

“A new commercial heart will be located along Macarthur Avenue to take advantage of increased foot traffic and maximise the invaluable new riverside parkland,” said Dr Miles.

“It will be one of the biggest contributions of Brisbane riverfront parkland since South Bank was established.” 

Following the games, the athletes’ village will be converted to provide commercial and retail spaces, as well as 1,750 new apartments.

Dr Miles said that “It's estimated Northshore Hamilton will have over 14,000 dwellings and be home to over 24,000 residents, to help meet south-east Queensland's fast-growing population.”

Limitless is a local developer with a submission for 100 apartments designed by renowned Plus Architecture within the precinct.

Nick Barr, Director of Limitless, has expressed his excitement about the expansion approval for the Olympic athletes’ village.
