Southbank is home to a broad collection of art, making it a creative’s delight. From the NGV to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), you can make a whole day out of perusing art galleries in Southbank. 

Start your day with a trip to ACCA, just a 10-minute walk from Melbourne Square. This beautiful gallery has a history of championing contemporary art and artists who stimulate conversations about the broader community. After ACCA, take a short stroll around the corner and you will find the NGV. As the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia, the NGV is home to a collection of wonderful Australian and international art. The NGV has a number of permanent exhibitions that are free for visitors, whilst also hosting a handful of blockbuster exhibitions throughout the year. 

 

Take a trip to the theatre

As one of Melbourne’s most popular arts precincts, Southbank is also home to theatres where you can enjoy a variety of shows. The Malthouse theatre puts on an eclectic mix of shows throughout the year, hosting everything from experimental theatre to comedy shows. Just a short walk away is the Melbourne Recital Centre, where classical and contemporary musicians perform throughout the year, as well as the Southbank Theatre where the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) perform.
