A Chinese buyer has purchased a heritage listed multi-purpose building in Collins street for a very lucky price.

415 Collins St, Melbourne, was purchased by a Shanghai based buyer for $8,888,888 - with '8' being an extremely lucky number for the Chinese.

More than 200 people attended the auction with more than 51 bids made by around 12 bidders. The price of the building was estimated to sell for under $10m, with a $6.2m reserve.

Located on the basement is The Sherlock Holmes Inn which is regarded as one of the first English Inns to operate in Melbourne. Made up of two 'houses', the buiidling, which is heritage listed, is known as 'Rochelle House' and 'Evans House' and was constructed in 1929 for mixed-use abilities y Thomas Evans.

Progressions as to what will happen to the building are all a guess - however, there is a belief that it will renovated inside and apartments will be sold both off-the-plan and upon construction.
