Together with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer (TZG), Panov-Scott and Burley Katon Halliday (BKH), Iris Capital is leading the architectural revival of the famed Potts Point precinct. This highly anticipated development is breathing new life into the suburb; the restoration and reinvention of classic architecture is set to herald a new age of luxury living.
The site is home to icons of Sydney’s golden era, including the infamous Kings Cross watering hole and entertainment hotspots, the Bourbon & Beefsteak and Empire hotels. The institutions championed the city’s vibrant nightlife and celebrity haunts and were once home to legendary cabaret show Les Girls, which ran for over three decades.
The development - named Queensgate - will span five boutique buildings; Sovereign, Regent, Consort, Empress and Monarch. Each building will offer a boutique collection of ultra-premium residences and luxury lifestyles steeped in history.
“Queensgate symbolises the next phase in the Potts Point renaissance, one which pays tribute to Potts Point’s art-deco roots while moving forward with a contemporary collection of sophisticated residence.”
Ben Stewart, CBRE
The original 1890 structure of the Lowestoft building is being reimagined as Sovereign, while the Regent’s much-loved Bourbon Bar will be meticulously restored to its former Victorian grandeur - complete with handcrafted detailing. Designed by Claude Hamilton and completed in 1928, The Commodore is set to be restored and reimagined as Consort.
The new Empress building brings a rich history thanks to its once-lively Carousel Lounge and Palladium nightspots, while Monarch has been reclaimed as private residences.
Ideally perched at the heart of the waterside suburb, Queensgate is perfectly positioned to maximise the unrivalled views across Sydney CBD, the Harbour Bridge and Rushcutters Bay Harbour.
Each residence has been thoughtfully oriented to take in the spectacular views. Sovereign, Regent and Consort’s penthouse owners will experience the skyline in the most spectacular fashion, complete with refreshing pools that add an extra layer of luxury to the private rooftop terraces.
Private balconies and terraces offer individual escapes to most apartments, while the social landscape on the Empress and Monarch rooftops present incredible communal spaces. The development also hides three secret gardens.
Inside, all Queensgate homes are elevated by artistic finishes, soaring three-metre ceilings, a limited collection of private wine cellars, and generous walk-in wardrobes. Kitchens are appointed with premium appliances, including Sub-Zero and Wolf. These off-the-plan apartments will be offered in a choice of four interiors, while the exclusive penthouses will boast private plunge pools overlooking the iconic Sydney Harbour and Opera House.
As home to Australia’s highest concentration of art-deco buildings and some of the nation’s earliest apartments, Potts Point has a unique charm that merges contemporary high rises with historic architectural landmarks. “We wanted to produce a collection of homes that was deeply reflective of the Potts Point character while offering the most high-end modern luxuries available in residential design,” says Tim Greer, Director of TZG.
“Our philosophy has always explored the crossover between art and architecture, and Queensgate epitomises that intersection of high-end design.”
Tim Greer, TZG
Sam Arnaout of Iris Capital commented that “breathing new life into key destinations with high-quality redevelopments is one of the hallmarks of Iris Capital, and we are extremely eager to see this unique revitalisation come to fruition in the coming months.” Borne from a famously vibrant past, Queensgate is set to become the landmark of luxuriantly indulgent living in Potts Point.
