Crown Group - one of Australia’s most awarded property developers - has recently announced Artis at Southbank as its first-ever boutique development in Australia and its flagship development in Melbourne. This project also marks a first in Melbourne for world-renowned architect Koichi Takada who has designed several other highly successful Crown Group projects in Sydney.
The design of the 16-storey development is inspired by two of Melbourne’s iconic landmarks - the flowing spine of the Arts Centre and the new NGV Contemporary art and design gallery, which will form part of the $200m redevelopment of the precinct.
“The project’s name is a nod to the concept of ‘art in motion’, which is reflected in the design of the fluid ribbon-motion facade of the two elliptical-shaped buildings. Every aspect of the interior will also reflect the bohemian art culture of Southbank.”

Iwan Sunito, Crown Group Chairman and Group CEO, comments on the flagship project; “We’ve seen significant interest from Melburnians in our Sydney projects, so we’re excited to finally bring our iconic design and luxury resort-style amenity to the Victorian capital.”
“Melbourne is a vibrant city with long-term investment potential and a key market in our plans for growth across Australia.”

Artis will include a range of exclusive resident facilities and amenities, including an indoor lap pool, spa, sauna, yoga studio, state-of-the-art gym, residents’ lounge and a landscaped rooftop garden with views of the Melbourne skyline and Port Phillip Bay.
Ideally located adjacent to a tram stop for convenient access into the CBD and some of the nation’s most prestigious universities, Artis is only a short walk to St Kilda’s bustling Arts Precinct, including the Malthouse Theatre, the NGV and Queen Victoria Gardens.
“We’ve been waiting for the perfect site in a prime inner-city location for about ten years,” adds Mr Sunito. “We wanted to create something rare and unique for our first project in Melbourne, and this location and the luxe, refined and timeless design will appeal to many.”
Crown Group’s signature design philosophy incorporates a deep sense of wellbeing and connection to nature at the heart of every project. This approach has been extremely well received so far, as demonstrated by the success of Waterfall in Sydney.
Prisca Edwards, Crown Group Sales Director, explains that “currently, all signs for the Melbourne property market are looking positive with housing and apartments seeing growth in the last quarter. We are already seeing an upturn in property prices, auction clearance rates and sales.”
