Sales are officially underway at the long-awaited $250m Eighty Eight O’Connell development in North Adelaide. Following the project’s grand launch last weekend, the development team has already secured sales across 20% of apartments.
Located at its namesake address, the project’s 350sqm Display Suite features a stunning, fully-furnished two-bedroom apartment that has been finished to the exacting specifications of the final product - allowing visitors to personally inspect the quality they can expect in their new home.
Jamie McClurg, Executive Chair of Commercial & General, comments, “To say we have been pleased with the level of enquiry would be an understatement. We have already had something like 1,600 registrations of interest in the project, and we have had more than 400 [people in attendance] to our VIP launch event.”
Landmark development for North Adelaide
Eighty Eight O’Connell is presented by SA’s largest developer, Commercial & General, with a spectacular design by globally renowned architecture firm Woods Bagot.
Perched atop an articulated podium structure, Eighty Eight O’Connell will feature 164 carefully crafted apartments across three buildings. More than just apartments, the landmark development is also designed to activate the surrounding public spaces and add value to the prestigious North Adelaide location. The development includes three levels of active retail and commercial tenancies including a marketplace with fresh produce, home-style meals and condiments, fine wines and boutique liquors.
Embodying principles of community, culture and convenience, the development is also within walking distance to museums, galleries, the Adelaide Oval, vibrant shopping and dining precincts as well as some of Adelaide’s finest parklands.
Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor has expressed her excitement about the new development. “This is a tremendously exciting milestone for a project that will be a catalyst for O’Connell Street and for North Adelaide. The quality of the display suite is exceptional. It’s a credit to both Commercial & General and Woods Bagot who have produced something that gives prospective buyers a very real glimpse of what they can expect,” she says.
“This street and this community have been waiting a long time and it’s fantastic to see the vision becoming a reality.”

Inside, Eighty Eight O’Connell presents one, two and three-bedroom apartments as well as four generously proportioned penthouses - all boasting breathtaking views towards the ocean, city and Adelaide Hills.
A focus on form, functionality and premium craftsmanship have underpinned every aspect of these homes. Oak-wood flooring and plush wool carpets feature underfoot while soaring ceiling heights add a touch of grandeur. Floor-to-ceiling double-glazing and large private balconies create a connection to the outdoors whilst offering a stunning backdrop for day-to-day living. The kitchen is elegantly appointed with custom cabinetry in warm timber tones, engineered stone benchtops and splashbacks, brushed premium tapware and high-end Miele appliances.
Rosina Di Maria, Principal of Woods Bagot comments, “there’s generosity of space and a connection to community that’s rare for apartment living. The design reflects the history of place as well as the new histories that will be built.”
She adds that “most of the apartments enjoy a corner outlook and dual aspects, connecting them further with the North Adelaide community. This indoor-outdoor liveability has informed the apartment interiors with kitchens and living spaces spilling out onto generous balconies. Residents are offered an outward-focused community, blending wellness and lifestyle through enhanced design. We’ve created a careful balance of public and private.”
Considering the project’s landmark status and incredible design, it’s no surprise Eighty Eight O’Connell has been inundated with enquiries. Jamie explains that “the majority of that interest is coming from current North Adelaide residents, and started translating into strong sales even before we launched our official marketing campaign.”
“There’s a sense of excitement because people can now see that, after more than 30 years as a vacant block that has made no contribution to the vibrancy of the community, something is happening that will transform the site and North Adelaide as a whole,” he continues.
Construction is scheduled to commence in Q2 2022 with the project expected to be completed in Q1 2025. For more information on Eighty Eight O’Connell or to visit the display suite click here.
