For Live City’s Grand Launch, R&F Property is hosting a mini daytime festival for all ages at the development’s site in Footscray. With kids activities and live performances, great food and drink, this is one event not to be missed.
The launch of Live City will include a colourful rope installation and other activities to encourage engagement with the history of the site. Franco Cozzo, Adam Cooney and Tony Liberatore will be guests of honour, and may even make an appearance in a friendly game of ‘Celebrity Tug of War’, which all attendees will be invited to join.
These local legends know better than anyone that the food of Footscray is renowned across Melbourne. So, naturally, R&F Property has ensured there will be a pop-up multicultural food market featuring the ‘best of Footscray’. It’ll be the perfect day to sample food from all over the world – from Greek and Italian to African and Middle Eastern dishes. You’ll be stuffed full of great food, but make sure you leave room at the end for a pick-me-up from the coffee cart or a cold beverage from the pop-up bar. There will be live music acts while kids entertainers will wander the grounds making balloon animals. Kids won’t be able to stay away from the face painting stall, while adults can enter the competitions that will run throughout the day.
It’s not just people welcome at the event, but their dogs too! It’s Paw-gust, so the Live City team have included our furry friends in the festivities. Dogs will enjoy Live City treats, the doggy bowl fountain and even a dog wash.
Footscray has come a long way in the past decade. An industrial area up until the 1970s, the area has been rejuvenated by urban regeneration. With the redevelopment of previously manufacturing sites, the community is ever-evolving as homeowners and business owners are drawn the affordable commercial and residential spaces.
Now, Footscray is being lauded as a multicultural arts and food hub, with a larger variety of cuisines than seen anywhere else so close to the city. Where else can a Melburnite find an Ethiopian restaurant two doors down from a place serving Afghani food? One need only walk down Hopkins Street as it transforms into Barkly Street to be thrilled by the diverse options.
However, there is one part of Footscray that has remained underdeveloped. The Kinnears Ropeworks Factory, established in 1902, closed down in 2002. The site has been passed along from developer to developer but now it rests in the capable hands of R&F Property, a company passionate about rejuvenating unused land into mixed-use hubs that benefit the community.
R&F Property knows the old ropeworks factory is a Footscray icon, which is why they’re working with Lovell Chen and Heritage Victoria to ensure the new development meets the board’s requirements. This way, Live City will retain as much of the original building as possible.
So, head over to Footscray on Saturday the 25th of August to view the full-sized prototype apartment in the Live City display suite, meet with the team and enjoy the community event!
