Why townhouses are gaining popularity

The latest trends in the property market show that townhouses are steadily gaining popularity amongst both owner-occupiers and investors. Many are drawn to the fact that townhouse living offers the ideal middle ground between an apartment and a traditional detached house - showcasing the best features of both types of homes including lower daily maintenance, design, affordability, location and privacy.

Compared to a traditional house, townhouses are designed and built with efficiency in mind, offering lower general maintenance without compromising on lifestyle. “Not everyone wants to spend their entire weekend maintaining an excessively large yard. For most people, a smaller garden offers enough space to entertain and relax outdoors,” explains Chee-Ky Dunlop from Barry Plant Real Estate Keysborough. Each off-the-plan townhouse at The Chapel Residence in Keysborough offers ample outdoor living space of up to 150 sqm; “this was possible due to the efficient planning that went into these properties. Each home has been cleverly designed and oriented to maximise the land they’re built on,” Chee-Ky adds.

Inside, the townhouses at both The Chapel Residence and Lily Street offer a level of luxury and modern design that is rarely found in traditional established homes. Chapel Residence offers a range of free-standing townhouses with architecturally designed interiors perfect for a boutique, community-centric lifestyle. Similarly, “the townhouses at Lily Street feature innovative floor plans with great proportions,” explains Carlo Puglia from Barry Plant Real Estate Sunshine. All three available units at Lily Street feature two bedrooms and two bathrooms, oriented to maximise the space and natural daylight. Complemented by generous open living areas, open kitchens and European appliances, residents will experience the privacy and space expected of a traditional house without the price tag.

“One significant drawcard of purchasing a townhouse is that they offer a relatively affordable entry into the property market for many first-home-buyers,” says Carlo. When purchasing a traditional house, one of the most common compromises is usually the location for affordability. Comparatively, townhouses are generally located within highly connected, thriving locales.

Marnoo Street and Lily Street townhouses are ideally located in Braybrook, only 10km from Melbourne CBD. “Not only is the city only a short drive or a quick train ride away, but Braybrook is also a vibrant suburb that is rapidly evolving to suit the lifestyle needs of young families and couples,” says Carlo. The inner-city suburb harbours plenty of retail options and urban amenities including a well-connected public transportation network, schools and parklands including the beautiful Maribyrnong River. Those living in Braybrook will also find themselves minutes from some of Melbourne’s trendiest cafes and a host of authentic, multicultural cuisines. “Braybrook has certainly changed into a thriving cultural hub with lots to see and do,” Carlo adds.

“Townhouses offer the best of both worlds - the perfect mix of the advantages of apartment living and living in a traditional house. The fact that they offer an affordable entry into the property market without having to make the expected sacrifices is also something purchasers should consider,” Chee-Ky sums up.
