House-sized homes designed for real life

Unlike typical inner-city apartments, homes at Frith & Howarth are 21.3% larger than the average apartment in Brunswick, offering the kind of space usually reserved for standalone houses.

Developed by Melbourne-based property developer Young Group in collaboration with MAP Architects, the residences have been intentionally designed to feel expansive, functional, and liveable. Think dedicated laundries, butler’s pantries, generous storage, and flexible floorplans to suit a range of lifestyles.

Beautiful as it is functional, natural oak flooring, double-glazed windows, and large sliding doors connect spacious interiors to expansive terraces, ensuring seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

One of Brunswick’s first all-electric residential buildings

Sustainability is foundational here. Frith & Howarth is the second all-electric residential building in Brunswick, and it leads with an impressive 7.5-star average NatHERS rating. Every residence is fully electric, with high-performance insulation, energy-efficient Siemens IQ appliances, and double glazing for thermal and acoustic comfort.

Rainwater harvesting, EV charging provisions for each apartment, solar panels, and a commitment to recycling 80% of construction waste reflect a genuine dedication to eco-conscious design.

The development also adheres to the Better Apartment Design Guidelines and supports the Sustainability Victoria Whole of Home initiative, ensuring comfort and cost-efficiency now and into the future.

A thoughtful response to place

Frith & Howarth’s distinct façade takes cues from its natural surroundings, specifically the native eucalyptus trees of Brunswick. The material palette of honey-toned Corten steel and grey ribbed panels mirrors the bark of these trees, harmonising the building with its landscape.

As MAP Architects’ co-director Joshua Muyambo explains, “The architecture harmonises with the environment by reflecting the local context, particularly the native trees.

“It intertwines with the landscape and creates an instant connection with nature, fostering a holistic lifestyle in an urban setting.”

Communal spaces have also been designed with lifestyle in mind. The rooftop garden offers vegetable plots, outdoor dining areas, and panoramic city views, perfect for connecting with neighbors or enjoying a peaceful retreat above the buzz of the city.

“This is really quite an edgy design and building in a location, it’s almost like an inner city version of New York has been transported to Melbourne,” said John Patrick, landscape architect of the project.
